About Jo Bruno

CupOfJoBruno is a long time brand of peer support and expression of lived-experience. Throughout my journey, I have sat at different tables and advised folks on best practices regarding trauma-informed peer support. Currently, I am working with the Contra Costa Continuum of Care and the Council on Homelessness. Because of my lived-experience with back to back crises, suicide attempts, childhood trauma, street life as a youth, the sex industry throughout my young adulthood, and an education focused on racial equity and writing policy, I find myself transitioning into a livelihood which will produce amazing things for many. I’m the founder of Delta Peers, which is currently being transformed into two programs. One, will be a new committee/working group that’ll focus on legislative bodies within our system of care. It’ll be a streamline process that’ll capture the lived-experience perspective, specifically to change policy within the system. It’s the message of HOPE. Second, will be The Well, which is a living organism that’ll give opportunities for folks to receive whole-care, self-care resources. It’s a program network with massive amounts of wellness material and wholistic practices. The pilot program that will execute the Constitution Of Intent will start with the unhoused population. When the trauma-informed material is created through the committee/working group meetings we will start at shelters to gather the lived-experience perspective. It’s truly about meeting them where they are and provide resources. California is moving forward with SB803 Peer Support Certification, so there is a lot still being implemented for the state law. As soon as the state policy and procedures are approved, Contra Costa County will then create a streamline approach to introducing Peer Support into our system of care. The Office of Consumer Empowerment and the SPIRIT program, available through Contra Costa College, will be our main network of training and creating material for the pilot program. Delta Peers is also seeking a fiscal agent and an executive director to run the wellness program. I will focus my time on the legislative discussions and the constitution of intent. There’s a lot going on. It’s time to get paid! Let’s roll!
