20 years with Sky as a Studio Graphics Operator gave me an eye for detail so, when I decided I wanted a change of direction, proofreading was an obvious choice. I trained with the Publishing Training Centre and got my qualification in 2018, shortly after moving from Surrey to Devon. A part-time ongoing contract with our local secondary school was the perfect work-life solution for me while my two boys were still in primary school. But I missed broadcasting. So in April 2021 I looked around for a way I could dip my toe back in without too much disruption to my rather lovely family life in Devon. That's when I discovered Torbay Hospital Radio were recruiting volunteer presenters. Perfect! I thought. I'd always fancied hosting my own show (I grew up in the early days of the CBBC broom cupboard!). So I applied. They gave me a slot on Friday 4-6pm (finish work at 3, pop home to change, back in time for tea) and I called it 'Jo's Friday Favourites'(mostly because it's a request show, but also because it's my favourite part of the week). When Raise Up Faith called me in September 2021 to ask if I could help with some Quality Assurance work on their brand new platform, I jumped at it. I knew of Wonderborn Studios and I loved the Raise Up Faith concept - to provide a content playground to resource Children's Ministry Leaders, worldwide, and help them inspire and equip generations to lead Jesus-centred, joy-filled lives. This was an opportunity to pull together all my skills in proofreading, broadcast media and education, and wrap them all up with a Christian spin. I felt like I was made for it. I began as a freelancer, but when a full-time position came up in November 2021, I couldn't wait to apply. Both boys were now at secondary school and I felt ready to return to full-time work, helped enormously by the fact I could work remotely.(Obviously I negotiated my hours so I could still do my radio show!) So it is a real joy to now be Content Manager with Raise Up Faith. My role is pretty varied, from planning out how print-based curricula translate to digital media, to writing the copy for the weekly newsletter and of course the careful QA (still my first love!). I get to work with amazing colleagues across the globe and I'm so proud of what we've built, and are still perfecting, together. As well as that, I get to help out in the Distribution arm of Wonderborn. I love the bird’s eye view of Wonderborn Media I enjoy so we can consistently offer the best in kids and family content, whether in TV or curricula. What a joy!
