About Jo Wouters

In 2021, I co-founded Olpas, supported by the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN). Olpas has since developed innovative sensor technology for concentration measurements, playing a key role in water treatment, water monitoring, and sludge processing. Given that water is one of Earth’s most valuable resources and water treatment is highly energy-intensive, our work has a direct impact on environmental sustainability by safeguarding water quality and reducing energy consumption. My career began in IT within the finance and insurance sectors. After nearly 15 years, I grew frustrated with the slow adoption of digital technologies in these industries, leading me to seek more dynamic challenges. In 2007, I co-founded 'Krimson - Drupal Architects,' a web development firm specializing in complex digital projects. This venture expanded into Wunderkraut Belgium and Wunderkraut Netherlands, with offices in Antwerp (BE), Ghent (BE), and Utrecht (NL). Our client roster included leading brands such as JNJ, Suzuki, Carrefour, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Swift.com, and nonprofits like Doctors Without Borders and several hospitals. In 2016, both companies were acquired by the Canadian firm Appnovation Technologies, where I took on the role of partner and director. Appnovation has since grown into a global organization with over 460 employees across multiple offices worldwide. Alongside tackling complex technical challenges, I have a passion for entrepreneurship, focusing on developing strategic visions and strategy as a foundation to build up a company with all stakeholders in mind.
