About Joan Petty

I have had the honor to work with adolescents, adults, couples, families and groups in my private practice since 1982. My professional career began in Los Angeles after graduating from UCLA Graduate School of Nursing. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, I have worked with clients in many venues which include psychiatric in-patient child, adolescent and adult units, Intensive Out-patient centers, community mental health centers and private practice. In addition to my clinical work, I have also been involved in various forms of education which include Associate Professor at the UCLA School of Nursing, Clinical Faculty of UCLA Department of Psychiatry, Clinical Instructor at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in NYC, Clinical Coordinator For Renfrew’s first I.O.P in NYC, Preceptor for graduate nursing students from Fairfield University, CT, and Trauma Recovery EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program Facilitator,and am an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. My clinical work has grown and evolved over the years I have been privileged to learn from experts in my areas of interest and mostly from the clients I’ve worked with. I specialize in the treatment of individuals struggling with eating disorders, complex trauma, attachment and relational issues. Although my practice includes a strong emphasis on EMDR, ego state work and strong, collaborative therapeutic alliances, my treatment plans vary according to the individual needs of each client. I have worked with hundreds of clients, consultees and students but have never met the same person twice.
