About Joan Young

I am a dispute resolution partner and senior litigator in one of Canada's national law firms, McMillan LLP, in the Advocacy and Litigation Group, the Competition/Antitrust Group and Co-chair of the Administrative and Public Law Group (BC). My practice emphasizes solving problems for clients, and representing a wide range of clients in mining, natural resources, hospitality, manufacturing, and government. My opponents know me as a highly skilled advocate with over 25 years of trial and appeal experience, I have successfully navigated clients through disputes involving class actions, product liability & tort law, contractual claims, administrative law and judicial review, government and public agency law. I have represented clients at all levels of courts, including in civil jury trials, as well as appearing before multiple administrative tribunals and boards. I am equally experienced working with clients to settle claims in alternative dispute resolution and in mediation of claims outside of the court system. I am skilled in providing proactive advice to public and private sector business on how to prevent and resolve disputes. I provide guidance to my clients in successfully managing and reducing litigation risk in their business operations because of the strength of my courtroom experience. As one of British Columbia's most experienced Fairness Advisors for public sector procurements, I have been appointed in over 20 high profile and multi-million dollar procurements to provide advice and oversight on the entire public procurement bid process from the initial development of the bid opportunity through to selection of preferred proponent.
