About Joann Schaefer

I am a Medical Executive with extensive experience leading diverse teams, delivering on strategic initiatives and clinical development. From directly serving a governor to a CEO, and being a president myself, my strengths included building mission-driven teams to deliver results, clear communication, quality and transformation. I have done this in extreme resource constrained environments and succeeded. I am skilled at innovative problem solving through technology and people and growing people who can thrive. As a physician leader, I am passionate about contributing to improving healthcare. Through my work and community service, I am committed to leaving this world a better place. I have led teams in government while working directly for a governor, implementing numerous changes in technology and policy such as obtaining statewide smoke free status signed into law. I’ve worked in the payor space transitioning into value based care, direct to consumer products and building and putting into action, predictive models with machine learning. I’m very interested in the adoption of AI. I’ve been a family physician and tenured Associate Professor seeing patients from conception to grave which has helped me provide patient centered and whole person focus for decisions. I’m also a grateful 15 year liver transplant recipient from a birth defect. Being a patient has guided me more than most experiences when driving toward improvements in healthcare. I’m unique in that I’ve been on all sides of healthcare regulator, public health, payor, patient and those hats provide a well rounded ability to consult healthcare businesses and coach executives as they grow. I’m dedicated to sharing what I’ve learned and help others build their dreams.
