In 2018, I boldly decided to leave the comforts of a stable job to return to university at 38 years old. Not only did I step away from a reliable income, but I also left a city I called home to pursue this new path that would allow me to work toward a more just and equitable world. It was a leap of faith, driven by the belief that my true purpose lies in helping others through policy, research, activism, or direct advocacy. Today, as I embark on a new role with the Canadian Institute for the Advancement of Women, I am filled with gratitude and determination. This opportunity aligns perfectly with my passion for gender equality, human rights, and social justice—values that have guided both my academic journey and professional reinvention. My degree is more than just a piece of paper; it represents my commitment to creating meaningful change. After years of contributing to cultural impact in my previous career, I shifted my focus to social justice, human dignity, and policy, knowing that systemic change requires dedicated effort. My volunteer work with Amnesty International Canada, including my role on the Nominations Committee, has deepened my understanding of advocacy and the power of collective action. As I step into this next phase—starting a new career in my 40s—I am more motivated than ever to contribute to advancing women’s rights in Canada and beyond. The fight for equality is far from over, but I am proud to stand alongside those working tirelessly to create a fairer, more inclusive world.
