About Joanna Smith

A senior leader in Higher Education with over 20 years’ academic and line management experience. Strategic and target driven, delivering successful outcomes through clear communication, identifiable KPIs and creating an empowering environment in which staff, students and organisations succeed. HEA Senior Fellow with a passion for teaching, curriculum development and learning. Highly reflective and a strong team leader and player, who shares with and learns from others’ individual expertise, in a spirit of collaboration, enterprise and continuous improvement. Previously a Human Resources professional and CMCIPD for over 20 years. I am passionate about people and learning more about how they work. We engage in active research in the School and with collaborative partners in the UK and abroad. My most recent research, supporting my PhD studies, relates to millennial generation workers using an oral history, life story narrative methodology. I have published book chapters on the Evaluation of Human Resource Development and co-authored journal articles introducing the concept of the 'Educational Scorecard' and exploring the transfer of learning interventions into the workplace with HR practitioners. My current research interests relate to generational and multi-generational working.
