About Joanne Schmidt

I am a graduate of Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology, class of 2004. I have a diploma in Legal Administration Studies, achieving high marks in dictation, litigation and communication. At graduation, I received the Simpson Wigle LLP award for academic excellence in communication skills and word processing. After graduation, I was hired at a national law firm at their offices in Guelph. I was transferred to their Kitchener-Waterloo office in 2005 and have remained in the area since. During my seven plus years at that firm, I worked steadily for a partner and several other junior lawyers as required. I have knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and the litigation process, including construction liens and insurance defence work, from a strictly administrative perspective. I have previous office experience working with another Kitchener-Waterloo organization and at a bank office. I took a few years off after parting with the law firm to raise my two children, Thomas and Ivy. After a five year stay at home with children, I re-entered the workforce and joined another local law firm as an assistant. I am a past hockey coach and trainer and a junior gardener in training.
