About Joao Pinto

Describing myself as a professional* In EFACEC I was constantly challenged having worked in the Intranet Development Team (during the big innovation boom in EFACEC), Industrial Engineering (conjugating my Planning/Organizational/People skills with Lean Manufacturing, Technology and Innovation) and finally Embedded Systems Engineering. For 11 years I was fortunate to have accomplished & most of the times exceed expectations, being nominated regularly as project/activity/team leader. In Jan-2015 I joined Synopsys where I started with the mission to upstream Linux drivers for DW Controllers, which I was able to be successful, creating the submission process for the team and being nominated as one of the kernel.org’ maintainers. In Synopsys I was exposed to a world of innovation and technology where I developed exponentially both my technical and soft-skills. In Sep-2017 I assumed the leadership of the Software Team (Linux drivers) where I was able to create a rich & fertile team, very process oriented, with the best balance between individual and company goals, maximizing the value-added. In Sep-2019 I was challenged to replicate the work done in the Software Team in the overall Porto’ Prototyping team (containing Software, FPGA and Hardware Validation), which was successfully achieved. In May-2022 I embraced a new career path, becoming a Program Manager where my focus was to use my project management, organizational & leadership skills to enable our customers success. It was a great experience to understand the Customer use cases & challenges. In Dec-2023, a new chapter started at Synopsys, moving to a different BU, working in Virtual Prototyping, where I am exploring the IP / SoC modelling world. I also have an entrepreneur side, which I could explore in 2010 by creating my first business (Oriental Essence – Wellness Center). Today I see myself as a professional with an interesting and broad Engineering background, complemented with interesting Leadership/People/Process/Project skills.*My interests outside work* The universe random sequence of events was very gentle with me, giving me a fantastic family that is my life’ priority. I am a book collector, with a special interest in Science Fiction, Alternative view of Human History and Physics (which helps me understand nature & the universe). Traveling, Cinema and Cultural events are also topics that I love.
