About Jocelyn Flores

I am an advocate for mental wellness and wellbeing. This holds a special place in my heart. As a young Mexican-American first generation college student, I am aware of the lack of health education within my community and other underrepresented populations. As a premed student I hope promote a healthy life style by serving as a resource for reproductive health and health issues. During my high school year, I was trained to become a peer advocate for reproductive health where I helped organize school events inclusive to faculty, students, and community and as part of United Students-Inner City Struggle coalition pushed for a much needed wellness center located within the high school. As undergraduate student the classes I have taken: Medical Terms and Transcription, General Psychology, General Chemistry, Fundamentals of Biology, Cell Biology and Evolution; have given me the basic skills and knowledge essential in the medical industry. As part of of the Science and Research Initiative at Santa Monica College I was able to conduct a group research project where I became educated on how to cultivate tissues, learned the proper lab protocol, and presented findings to SRI members.
