About Jochem Wijten

As a researcher, I like to solve and have solved complex and challenging issues. One of the most interesting aspects of solving these challenges is through proper experiments using well-designed equipment. I have 6 years of experience now in working in photo-catalysis, photo-electrochemistry, and electrochemistry, applying this knowledge in researching ways of reducing CO2 emissions through several different pathways- Storing Renewable Energy in the form of hydrogen through water splitting- Storage of renewably formed hydrogen in CO2 through subsequent thermal CO2 reduction- Direct reduction of CO2 with Cu-based alloys. To help my research I used multiple techniques, including but not limited to SEM-EDX, XPS, and electrochemical analysis techniques (e.g. CV, LSV, CP). An important value in my work is to share my knowledge with others and simultaneously learn from them. I have worked in multidisciplinary environments and took part in numerous collaborations. As my next step in my career, I see myself working in the energy sector, using my knowledge to contribute to society. So currently I am open to exploring new opportunities in the Netherlands.
