Background

About Jodie Combot

Within my current role as an Adjudicator within the Occupational Disease Unit at the Workers Compensation Board, I am responsible for performing thorough investigations, gathering information, and dealing with a variety of sensitive issues, including fatality claims and psychological injuries. I am required to review various types of reports and information to make complex adjudication and compensation decisions. The various types of situations, as well as the exposures and diseases that are presented to me in the Occupational Disease Unit has provided me with further experience in dealing with complex issues and claims. My past caseloads within my role at the Works Compensation Board consisted of a number of employers were very proactive in managing of their claims, and had aggressive return to work programs in place. As such, on the majority of the claims, there were discussions and negotiations regarding return to work and modified duties between myself and both the worker and the employer. This has given me a great deal of experience in reviewing for entitlement decisions and the means of communicating these decisions to both parties, and I feel that this would prove to be an asset in dealing with any circumstances that may arise in a new role. In addition to my employment at the WCB, I spent three years in Group Underwriting at Great West Life in both Underwriter and Analyst roles. Within my role at Great West Life, I was required to maintain relationships with advisors and other internal partners. My responsibilities included performing risk analyses and implementing large financial decisions on policies. This required multiple levels of communication and negotiation between myself and the advisors. In addition, this role required the use of various data systems and applications, in which my extensive computer skills were an asset. Prior to this employment, I spent nearly two years as a Member Service Representative at Steinbach Credit Union. Within that role, I was required to maintain client relationships and handle various transactions, including making decisions on eligibility for various financial products. I believe that my previous experience within both the financial and insurance sector making financial decision and providing various types of customer service, are an asset. My experience as an Adjudicator has allowed me to greatly expand my decision making skills, and has taught me how to handle different levels of sensitivity and conflict with each claim I review.
