About Joe Brus

As a Property Controller I apply a financial outlook to daily operations to analyze and interpret financial activity and changing trends. Also, to coordinate the closing of the monthly accounting cycle and produce financial statements for Department Managers, CFO’s and Owners. I bring 22 years of experience as a Property Controller, 15 of those years as a Regional Controller responsible for a Centralized Accounting office, Compliance and producing Consolidated Financial Statements. It was also my responsibility to prepare for annual external audits. My strength is coordinating the monthly accounting cycle from daily internal auditing through closing Cash, Payables, Receivables, Payroll, Income Journal, Inventory, Cost of Goods Sold, Intercompany, Pre-Paid Expenses, monthly Accruals, posting all Journal Entries, General Ledger Reconciliations and Trial Balance review before producing Financial Statements to GAAP. Then review for variances to budget and changing trends. My career path has taken me from the Mailroom to Regional Controller with many steps in between. I accomplished this by taking the initiative to learn tasks beyond my job description then focusing on the bigger picture to understand the entire process, adopting a process-oriented approach. My greatest learning experience is that I have always worked in an environment that is subject to annual external audits, both financial and operational. I know what auditors look for. This taught me that if daily audit trails are in place and monthly reconciliations current, you are always ready for an audit. Currently looking to manage an accounting office and the monthly accounting cycle. I would prefer an environment that values timely and accurate financial information as this would support my objective of keeping the accounting operation current and compliant.
