About Joe Bussman

I have over 33 years of law enforcement experience in Washington State. This includes over 7 years with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board. I have worked with the cannabis, liquor and tobacco industries. I have provided training and conducted complex inspections in those fields of industry. Prior to that I worked for over 25 years with the Washington State Patrol. During my career I have enjoyed and excelled at many different aspects. I have developed many partnerships inside and outside of the agency. I have been a road trooper, pursuit driving instructor, technical collision specialist, a detective and for 13 years a sergeant. I have supervised several different teams and have enjoyed the development of individuals and teams. I have assisted in the implementation of new Bureaus. I have supervised road teams, outpost teams, maritime security teams and Commercial Motor Vehicle teams. I have developed numerous operation plans and enforcement programs. I have conducted several threat assessments and security details. I am a strategic thinker focusing on ways to improve, modernize and simplify. The goal is to help and grow without impeding. I am a trusted adviser and confidant. I was a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance for two years. I handled property damage and bodily injury cases. I had to negotiate with lawyers, body shops, insureds, claimants and arbitration boards. I have over 5 years of experience in the grocery business. I started at Safeway as a Courtesy Clerk and also worked in the produce department, as a checker, and from a night time shelf stalker to head price changer.
