About Joe Calvetti

Jose Luis Calvetti is more affectionately known to his fellow teachers, parents and many students as “Teacher Joe”. Seeking something other than growing tomatoes in the autumn of life, he divorced himself from his previous career in Client Services and Training, and embarked on a new and rewarding career in Education. For almost a decade now, Teacher Joe has made a positive and lasting effect on Nursery and Kindergarten students at both bilingual and international schools in the Bangkok metropolitan area. His philosophy on teaching is a simple one, perfectly summed up by Admiral James T. Kirk in the movie Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, “We learn by doing," and if it can be made fun, even better. Children learn best when they are fully engaged and having fun. As Teacher Joe points out, though, part of the learning process involves students testing their boundaries in both positive and negative ways. Teacher Joe handles each situation with age appropriate reasoning by asking questions that will promote self-reflection and self-understanding of personal versus social responsibility and compassion. As he is fond of saying,"I teach students to be the best versions of themselves today, instead of focusing on who they will be in the future.” Teacher Joe has pursued his own educational development by completing the Masters of International Teaching degree from Framingham University. He is also a licensed teacher through the Teachers' Council of Thailand, and is known as a quite competitive “Rock, Paper, Scissors” player.
