About Joe Gorse

I am an electrical and computer engineer by degree from Ohio State-a generalist with broad expertise and a lifelong interest in software. I want to see projects succeed and I do not see my job title as a limit for how; I will write kernel code or draw icons. At the age of 10 I learned to compile EnvyMUD using GCC on my Macintosh LC II. Ever since I have stayed close to the software bits and their home on the hardware register. Most recently I have compiled an old Linaro 4.9 GCC for the new Mac M1 arm64 architecture and developed an embedded strip chart for a product selling in the global test market. Years of experience with countless organic real-world software/electrical systems has taught me that systems should be "correct by construction." Rather than fumble around asking why a system isn't working, ask why should it work in the first place? What design aspects guarantee it cannot fail? Inspired by functional programming, I have spent some time looking at bringing OCaml to embedded systems for the high-reliability and correct-by-construction benefits.
