About Joe Miley

First class honours degree in computer science and mid level software engineer with 3 years of experience who decided to follow my passion for all things computing and retrain, by studying a Computer Science BEng at a Cambridge University. I consider myself very driven and passionate, and across my time at university have founded and remained the President of the ARU Coding Society through my entire degree with a retention rate of 66% over the 4 years bringing likeminded students together to code, problem solve and generally connect, which I’m incredibly proud of. A highlight of my time at university has also been my final year dissertation, in which I used AI and ML to find Pneumonia in databases of x-ray images of lungs, which I received a first degree honours for. My time in the leisure industry allowed me to develop my communication skills, and my ability to develop good relationships allows me good career trajectory and output levels for any future role or task presented to me. Across my time at university, I have led 3 group projects achieving a first in the C# and SQL projects showing my ability to work as part of a successful team, but also to step up and lead when required. Computing is a not just what I study, it is an obsession of mine. I often code in my personal time, currently working with Python, C#, SQL, MatLab, web tech, and I’m always hungry to investigate more languages and workflows for the most scalable and maintainable result. Before COVID I was attending regular industry meets to try and widen my knowledge and keep learning including at Display Link, ministry of testing and OWASP. I truly believe that you never stop learning in this industry, and that is what I love about it and why I want to build a long career in progressing, designing and maintaining software.
