Background
About Joe Radding
For the past 18 years, I have taught diverse community college students who enroll in Economics and other courses as part of their pathways to future careers. From April 2018 through March 2020, I advised the San Diego, California-based, national nonprofit AVID Center on expansion and outreach strategies to transform the lives of K–12 and community college students throughout California, and I provided the AVID Center with research and writing related to AVID and career education. In my now-closed educational and leadership consulting practice, I was well-qualified to share my 35 years of knowledge and experience as a California state policy advisor and program administrator. I continue to have a passion for improving the lives of my fellow California residents as demonstrated by the following accomplishments-From 2016 through 2017, I led the implementation of the $200 million California College Readiness Block Grant, the nation's largest effort to prepare disadvantaged students for college access and success-From 2014 through 2017, I successfully managed the $500 million California Career Pathways Trust, the nation's largest workforce development-through-education initiative, that has enabled tens of thousands of California students to enroll in career pathway programs in grades nine through community college that prepare the students for high-skill, high-wage jobs and careers in growing and emerging industry sectors-In response to the 1994 Northridge Earthquake in Los Angeles County, I efficiently managed the State of California's efforts to resolve millions of dollars of personal property claims resulting from the state clearing debris from the collapse of the Santa Monica Freeway in west Los Angeles-In response to the 1989 Loma Pieta Earthquake, I effectively managed a $110 million, special tax-supported fund that was used to settle-without litigation-the death, personal injury, and personal property claims resulting from the collapse of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the Interstate 880-Cypress Structure;$20 million was returned to the State Treasury.
