About Joel Barnett
Recent UCLA Ph.D. graduate advised by Professors Andrea Bertozzi and Luminita Vese. I work in mathematical imaging and inverse problems which have applications in remote sensing/signal processing tasks such as image denoising, decomposition and physics estimation. I am particularly interested in the application of machine learning towards improving and augmenting classical approaches to such topics. In 2023, I joined Los Alamos National Laboratory as an applied machine learning research fellow where I work on reduced-order modeling for turbulent fluid simulation. The work combines deep learning with structured theory to improve computational fluid dynamic models.
