About Joel Chappo

Originally from Indiana, Joel attended architecture school at Ball State University and made his way to Los Angeles in 2005. Since joining Omgivning in 2014, Joel Chappo has worked on a variety of projects that include adaptive reuse, multi-family residential, affordable housing, senior housing and storefronts on Broadway. Joel enjoys the challenges of bringing new life to existing structures with a keen awareness to the elements that tell the story of the building’s past. Joel provides Omgivning with an enthusiasm for creative problem solving with an eye for organization evidenced in his management of project teams executing residential projects at various scales. His responsiveness to community groups and design review boards has helped guide several projects through the Entitlements process. He combines this experience with design sensitivity and diligent technical research throughout the design and permitting process while working collaboratively with the Client, consultants and building officials to deliver clear and concise construction documents that help realize innovative solutions. In his spare time, Joel can be found combing the neighborhoods of Los Angeles for historic cafes and the best deli sandwiches in the city.
