Operational Support I assume tactical command responsibility at calls where the Tactical Unit is deployed in the inner perimeter. I offer tactical support and/or consultation on operational calls to patrol Sergeants and incident commanders to either supplement or replace patrol resources and equipment. I participate as a member of a structured uniformed team. My role as Tactical Sergeant is integral to the deployment of my Team to high-risk calls and I am responsible for developing and approving all tactics that are created to support the incident commander’s mission and objectives. I have awareness of all internal SOPs and Calgary Police Service policies as they relate to the deployment of the Tactical Unit. I fulfill and maintain a balance between the role of supervisor and operational team member. I remain as an operational member of the team, and maintain all my qualifications to be physically and mentally prepared to fill any role on the team. Supervision I perform front line supervisory duties, supervise and participate in the development of the Constables assigned to the Tactical Unit, ensure and all minimum standards and training qualifications are maintained. I also provide regular feedback concerning member performance and prepare assessments for each subordinate as required. I supervise, direct, develop and plan strategies and tactics for Tactical Unit personnel at scenes of major occurrences and involvement in special events as well as attend debriefings of serious incidents and make recommendations when required. Training and Development I strive to promote a high degree of team expertise through progressive training in all tactical, explosive, gas, less lethal and weapon systems. Promote currency in training by seeking out progressive opportunities to learn from and cross-train with external policing agencies. Promote research and development of specialized equipment to advance the safety of member and the community on all calls. Administration These duties include preparing administrative and statistical reports and other correspondence as required as well as prepare, manage, and balance budget related items.
