About Joel Odin

I am an occupational health & safety professional with nearly 30 years of experience. I have managed multiple teams of H&S experts with the primary focus to continuously improve health and safety performance metrics through the development, implementation, and sustainment of health & safety programs. I am committed to reducing workplace risks, preventing workplace injuries and increasing staff well-being. I am a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), earning this designation in June 2006. I also earned the Occupational Health & Safety Technologist (OHST) designation in June I have extensive knowledge of WorkSafeBC’s Occupational Health & Safety Regulation and Workers’ Compensation Act. Some of my more recent experience includes: • managing multiple teams of H&S professionals including developing team goals, directing/overseeing daily operations, and completing regular performance reviews. • developing and implementing occupational health & safety management systems, including liaising with senior leaders on organizational commitments to H&S, development/analysis of organizational H&S metrics, integrating safety into organizational culture, preparing regular reports on the status of the OH & S program • assessing workplace hazards, completing risk assessments, and identifying control measures • conducting complex, multi-employer incident investigations • supporting joint occupational health & safety committees, including organizing and facilitating over 7 annual OH & S conferences (250+ attendees), plus development of a provincially standardized JOHS annual evaluation tool used by all BC Health Authorities. • conducting safety inspections and audits • extensive knowledge in a variety of topics such as violence prevention, asbestos, respirator fit testing, first aid, and working alone to name a few During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was responsible to manage a team of H&S professionals from three different BC Health Authorities that were assigned to sort, assess, and inspect donated and alternative PPE destined for use across all BC Health Authorities.
