About Joel Scriven

High-Integrity Nature-Based Solutions | Southeast Asia I’m an ecologist and climate strategist with over 18 years’ experience advancing high-integrity nature-based solutions (NbS) and REDD+ across Southeast Asia. As Co-Founder and President Director of Southridge Group, I lead the design and delivery of large-scale forest and peatland restoration projects that generate verified climate mitigation, biodiversity recovery, and tangible benefits for local and Indigenous communities. Our mission is to raise the bar for integrity, transparency, and community value in carbon markets. My earlier career includes serving as Shell’s Country Manager for Nature-Based Solutions in Indonesia, where I originated and structured multi-million-tonne carbon projects aligned with Shell’s Net-Zero ambition, and nearly a decade with UNDP and FAO, supporting governments across the Asia-Pacific to access REDD+ and climate finance under the and Green Climate Fund frameworks. I hold a PhD from the University of Oxford and Executive Education in Sustainability Leadership from Harvard University. I’m passionate about bridging the gap between policy, finance, and field execution to scale credible nature-based climate action. I frequently engage on topics such as Article 6 implementation, carbon market governance, and pathways to integrate local knowledge and rights into global climate finance. Always open to collaboration with governments, investors, and innovators driving a just and credible transition in the region.
