About Joel Whitehurst

Mr. Whitehurst has nearly 20 years of experience within specialty insurance and investment management. His experience is multifaceted, spanning many functional areas within the insurance and investment industries, the latter of which is within the niche legacy insurance and reinsurance sector. He has specialized M&A experience with assumptions, LPTs, novations, and acquisitions of non-life legacy insurance portfolios; regulatory supervision of P&C companies operating within Bermuda; investment management experience within strategic and tactical asset allocation, fixed income and equity trading, research, internal portfolio management across bond and equity portfolios, due diligence across liquid and illiquid asset classes. Mr. Whitehurst joined Fleming in 2024 in a Mergers and Acquisitions role where in addition to managing and executing flow legacy transactions, he develops and executes strategic underwriting initiatives and partnerships. Mr. Whitehurst joined R&Q in a Mergers and Acquisitions role in 2019, executing 5 transactions in a lead capacity, the largest of which was in excess of $170mln in net reserves. Mr. Whitehurst joined the BMA in 2018 in a supervisory role, overseeing non-life insurance companies operating globally and contributing to the supervision of the non-life legacy sector. Mr. Whitehurst joined Enstar in August of 2011. At Enstar, Mr. Whitehurst was lead or co-lead investment liaison to the acquisition team in helping to complete over $3bln in insurance acquisitions and was involved in over $9bln in completed acquisitions. Mr. Whitehurst was responsible for the internal portfolio management and trading of the $2.2bln government and corporate bond portfolio and was instrumental in its upper quartile peer performance. Mr. Whitehurst’s responsibilities also included strategic and tactical asset allocation, liquid and illiquid third-party manager due diligence. Prior to his tenure at Enstar, Mr. Whitehurst began his career at a boutique investment firm, Capital G Investments Ltd, in July 2005, where he was co-portfolio manager of a trust preferred fund, a portfolio manager servicing multi-asset class portfolios, led fixed income and equity trading, and a research team member hosting monthly and quarterly capital market assessment and tactical rebalancing meetings. Mr. Whitehurst graduated from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park Maryland, in 2005 with a double major in finance and accounting. Mr. Whitehurst is a CFA charterholder.
