In my eyes, the key to the development of the full potential of an individual comes down to one thing. LISTEN! It is so very easy to talk, to fill in the empty silence, while missing that opportunity to really discover what that person wants to tell you. A great educator is one that knows when to sit back and listen. It is in these moments, true education occurs. Looking at just K-12 education, the symbiosis of teacher and student engaged and listening to each other leads to their dual success. What is more, it leads to a new type of society, a society in which recognition of the world's needs are put front and center. The world is getting smaller, as we come to realize that education needs to be more inclusive and integrated; in that same vein, education must always seek awareness of differences and similarities in its global citizenry of students. It is this that breeds success for the institution, and with that, those that enter its doors. This is precisely what novel,"Dark Horse" mindset institutions are tackling, as they pursue, not just the standardized way of education, but a more '"cutting edge" philosophy that empowers students to make the right choices that fit their unique interests, abilities, and circumstances. Truly, as Dr. Stefanos Gialamas of gMp suggests, this is the time for a shift in education. It is time for a paradigm shift to a more holistic educational system here in the States and abroad, one that embraces the individual. As it has been said,"When the Student is ready, the Teacher will come." It is our calling in Education to build that institution that puts that Student with that Teacher. Then, we have done well.
