Background
About Johan Hoffman
Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and founder of the open source software project FEniCS. Author of the books Methods in Computational Science (SIAM 2021) and Computational Turbulent Incompressible Flow (Springer 2007). On the editorial boards of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Computational Science and Engineering book series and the Elsevier journal Computers & Fluids. My research combines fundamental research on mathematics, computer science and computational mechanics with applied research in interdisciplinary collaborations with industry and society, focused on aerodynamics, urban planning, renewable energy and biomedicine. For example, I seek to develop a new mathematical model of turbulence that will improve diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Apart from science, I write and produce music and theatre, act and perform.
