About Johan van Dijk

After my graduation I joined Huisman as a mechanical engineer. What I like about engineering is contributing to solutions that make things possible that were not possible before or that significantly increase efficiency. I have strong analytical skills. A problem is not often too hard. I don’t panic easily and think thoroughly before making any decisions. When the job is valuable I’m motivated to do it right the first time. I like working in a team where knowledge of different disciplines can be combined. In conflict situations I can be a strong mediator. I like to learn and put new knowledge into practice. At Huisman I worked on pipelay equipment which are challenging in both a structural and a mechanical way. Structural, electrical and hydraulic engineering need to work closely together. As a welding engineer I had the opportunity to be the link between engineering and production. This made communication more efficient and more effective welding techniques could be applied. As a mechanical engineer at Allseas I had the opportunity to fulfil the role of project manager on a challenging project. Here I got the opportunity to work closely together with software and control engineers and got valuable feedback from the crew on Allseas vessels in operation. I enjoyed the cooperation between different disciplines and with the actual end users. After moving to Veenendaal I started at Lagerwey / Enercon where I could work on a possible upgrade of the successful LCC140 climbing crane. Unfortunately this project is (so far) not continued. As a project engineer at VIRO I now assist various clients with solving their mechanical issues or improving their products, combining the knowledge and expertise of the client with that of VIRO.
