Background

About Johan Viljoen

I am a dedicated and results-driven Engineering Manager with over 8 years of experience in the petrochemical and heavy industrial sectors. My background spans mechanical design, plant maintenance, failure investigations, and full-cycle project execution—culminating in my current role as a Senior Engineering Manager, where I lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex projects safely, on time, and within budget. I have successfully delivered several EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, overseeing all phases from concept design through to commissioning. I ensure strict adherence to technical specifications, design intent, and industry regulations, while also managing contracts, vendors, and project risk. Previously, as a Mechanical Engineer, I gained hands-on experience in the design, rerating, and repair of pressure equipment, mechanical inspections, Fitness-for-Service assessments (API 579 / ASME PCC), and maintenance planning. I bring strong technical skills in material selection, welding, heat treatment, and engineering software tools. I’m passionate about developing engineering talent, fostering collaborative team environments, and continuously improving project outcomes. I thrive in challenging settings that demand both engineering expertise and strong leadership.
