About Johanna Overmars

After completing my articles as an Associate to the Judges of the Family Court of Western Australia and at Legal Aid WA in 2005, I worked for several years in the areas of family law and criminal law at Legal Aid WA. I left Legal Aid WA in 2008 to enter private practice where I specialised in family law with a focus on property and parenting matters. In 2011 I took a short break from practicing law and worked with horses. I had been studying horsemanship for several years and this allowed me to put into practice the skills I had been learning. Feeling refreshed from my break, I returned to practice in 2012, taking up a position as a Senior Solicitor at the Women's Law Centre of WA. Here the focus of my work was assisting victims of domestic violence. In 2013 I set up my own firm, Hills Hope Legal Pty Ltd located in Mundaring. I thoroughly enjoyed working as sole practitioner and had an amazing team working with me. In 2018 I was appointed a Member of the Racing Penalties Appeal Tribunal. As a member I hear and determine appeals against penalties imposed in disciplinary proceedings in relation to the conduct of greyhound racing, horse racing and harness racing. In September 2019 I chose to close Hills Hope Legal to commence maternity leave and spend more time with my family. I returned to work in March 2022, as a Senior Solicitor at Frichot Lawyers, Fremantle practicing in the Wills and Estates and Family Law teams. In February 2024 I commenced working at Corinne Griffin and Co as a Senior Solicitor in the Wills and Estates and Family Law teams.
