About John A. Capin

Among my most gratifying professional accomplishments was my service as the Department of Justice Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. As a multilingual, bicultural native Spanish speaker, I thrived in this position as DOJ's principal representative in Mexico, working with Mexican authorities at the highest level, advising various components of DOJ and other agencies on issues arising under U.S. and Mexican law, and managing a busy and varied docket of legal matters. I've recently returned to Mexico as a Special Liaison to the Government of Mexico, spearheading DOJ's ongoing efforts to maintain and improve a healthy, cooperative bilateral relationship with Mexico. Before my time in Mexico, my greatest accomplishments were in the courtroom. I have extensive federal civil and criminal trial experience — much of it in the international realm. While I've had great success as a trial attorney, many of the results of which I'm proudest have resulted from my skill as a negotiator. Fluent in spoken and written Spanish; working knowledge of French and Portuguese; Admitted to: Massachusetts (State and Federal), First Circuit; have also appeared in Federal Court in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, North Carolina; Security Clearance: Top Secret (TS/SCI) level.
