About John Ashmore

I am an HIV/TB, Universal Health Coverage, Health Financing and Health Policy Senior Analyst, Researcher.and Director, with over 10 years experience making a tangible difference in Southern and East African countries. I am a Health Economist by training, with a PhD in Public Health from UCT, MSc from SOAS, and having worked in senior management roles for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and CHAI. I have overseen operations, advocacy and research (MSF), consulted various times to WHO and USAID, for example, and was a Research Fellow at LSHTM and Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. I have 20 scientific publications, 6x peer-reviewed (>40 citations each avg.) and over a dozen media appearances/opinion pieces. I have long been a creative innovator. I recently built up a successful, ethical EdTech company from scratch: AfroStory.com, with over free books downloaded from Tanzania to South Africa in 2023 alone - mainly rare, African Classics for all ages and abilities. It works in a cave, with Read Aloud! I raised $100k, handed the company over to a Venture Capitalist. I am currently consulting as an Economic Evaluation Health Economist for a Wellcome Trust-funded UKZN PreP trial. I am looking for something full-time, ideally.
