Background
About John Badcock
Event/festival industry freelancer working seasonally between the UK and America, with a specific interest in Event Management and Operations, Event Safety and Emergency Planning. Since 2014 I have worked around 5 months a year in Austin, Texas for SXSW. This is an extremely varied and diverse event, a fact reflected in my role, however some highlights have been working on the development and formalisation of a range of internal operational procedures ad staff training, the development of the SXSW Communications Centre (Event Operations Centre) and the development of NIMS/ICS based plans allowing better integration with City of Austin Public Safety Agencies. This is all with a view to enhancing the experience for our attendees by increasing levels of crowd safety and incident response whilst allowing us to integrate better with the City of Austin. From 2010 - 2016 I was employed on a seasonal basis by MAMA Group (MAMA Festivals has been apart of Live Nation (UK) since September 2015) working a range of positions as part of their in-house Event Management team on a number of UK festivals and events. Covering capacities of to from camping to single day events, and a whole range of music genres and other attractions. Events included Lovebox, Wilderness, The Great Escape, Citadel, GlobalGathering, High Voltage and Somersault Festivals. Prior to 2010 whilst at school and university I worked with a number of venues in both production management (lights, sound etc) and venue management roles. All of these roles have taught me some valuable lessons about working in events- How to make an attractive, yet functional spreadsheet- How to hoard stationary and office supplies- That you can never have too many spare pairs of socks. When not working events I enjoy sailing, walking and pretending I'm a better cook than I am.
