Over the past 3+ decades, I have worked for various industries in the area of network engineering and security. Some of those industries are aviation, insurance, hospital/health care, law enforcement, public utility, education, and all levels of government (including federal). In 2003, I retired from major contracting and returned to the roots of my original business (Best Deal Computers) in two ways. First, I returned to the city in which it was founded and, second, I reopened the doors to the general public. Since that time, Best Deal Computers has grown tremendously and has allowed me to explore an additional business venture: in July 2009, I formed the Lawrence Entrepreneurs Group. The Lawrence Entrepreneurs Group (LEG) is a business networking group for local business owners and managers in which they can share experiences, referrals, and brainstorm to remedy problems the members are experiencing. This started to remedy the problems I saw with other networking groups in the area. Some were too stiff and rigid, being more about rules and structure, while others were too loose to be anything more than a social club in which very little of the meeting had any substance. LEG takes the best aspects of both and combines them to create a new and better organization. Within two months, however, the group name had to be changed because of interest from other parts of the state and even from outside the state. Thus, the group changed from Lawrence Entrepreneurs Group to Local Entrepreneurs Group. Specialties: Speaking with customers in English as opposed to "geek speak," working with customers to improve their overall enjoyment of their computer technology, ability to understand and assess current network configuration and evaluate needs while keeping costs low, assisting the elderly in their use and understanding of today's technology.
