About John Boereboom

Dr John Boereboom is an evaluation partner at the Education Review Office (ERO). Prior to this he was the Director of Education Plus and the Centre for Assessment and Monitoring (CAM) at the University of Canterbury. Education Plus provides high quality professional development for New Zealand schools and teachers. CAM provides entrance tests, value added assessments and student and staff engagement surveys for New Zealand primary and secondary schools. John is the founder of the Kiwi English, Mathematics and Science competitions for primary and secondary schools and the Base and VA assessments. Previously John was an Academic Developer and senior lecturer at Lincoln University where he coordinated the professional development programme for academic staff and lectured undergraduate courses in social science research methods. John holds a PhD in Education, a MEd (dist) a BSc in mathematics and a post graduate certificate in strategic leadership from Canterbury University. He is a registered teacher and has held various teaching positions in secondary schools ranging from physics teacher to Qualifications Manager and Assistant Principal. He has extensive experience in teacher training and was a Head of Department at the Christchurch College of Education. He has been seconded by the Ministry of Education and NZQA in relation to national qualification development, assessment and moderation. John is a NZCER level C psychometric assessor. In 2014 John received a Lincoln University Teaching Excellence Award. He is a fellow of HERDSA and a member of AERA.
