About John Bohan
I work as Associate Faculty in the School of Computing at the National College of Ireland. I've have taught courses in data visualisation, information systems management and supervised research by students. I hold a number of post-graduate qualifications, most recently in data analytics (MSc in Data Analytics) and in a range of other areas including European Social Security, Statistics, Public Sector Analysis and the Economics and Politics of European Integration. I am available for consultancy work as a self-employed policy and data analyst. Up until early 2019, I worked work as a senior manager level in the Irish public service. For over 20 years, I've taken on a wide range of roles - mainly in Ireland but also in other organisations including the European Commission. My role immediately prior to departure was to manage and develop policy around disability, illness and carers' payments in the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP). Prior to that I worked as a senior manager with specific responsibility for Software Engineering functions. I have considerable experience working in an international setting most recently as Chair of the Indicators Sub-group of the EU's Social Protection Committee. I hold a primary degree in Public Administration from the Institute of Public Administration in Dublin. I also hold number of post-graduate qualifications in statistics and in public policy from Trinity College Dublin and the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. Key interests: Data analytics and business intelligence, Data Visualisation methods, IT use in delivering of public services, Public sector reform, organizational design and change in public, private and voluntary sectors.
