About John Boreham

I have vast experience in the train crew grade and would like to take this opportunity to advance my career. My experience over the past 25 years is not only of railroads and train crew but of other industry small business. I have employed people, quoted on projects and canvassed for business. My Rail experience is mainly heavy haulage mineral trains using Distributive Power and locotrol. I am qualified in ATP and have a thorough understanding of most safe working systems. I am currently working for a Green field Iron Ore company (African Minerals) in Sierra Leone (West Africa) as a driver where one of our primary roles is to train the nationals. This is no easy task; however I warm to the challenge. My role has a lot to do in the maintenance of competency and training of nationals to start as drivers’ assistants and Drivers. Education standards here are quite high for Africa however because of the civil war there is a 10 year gap. Trains have not run here for 40 years so the people don’t have an understanding of rail safety or the dangers involved. We are making great progress but it is a long way to go. I have worked as a Rigger and Dogger at Jellinbah mine for D&B services, and also did shut down work on weekends and holidays for around 10 years The role I had at Qr national was a Tutor driver. This role was mainly training and assessing the job at hand. It was a position I found rewarding. I am always interested in gaining new skills and rising to a new challenge. I am proactive in my role and try to make the job better. I also worked in Safety (culture change) projects for a period. In the last years before I left QR National, My career took a different path and I was involved in different tasks. The first was to implement and achieve training of train crew in a corridor of track. As well as culture change within the company.
