Background
About John Branam
I'm a proven organizational leader who is passionate about leading values-based, social and community impact teams as they seek to achieve large scale impact – especially for youth from low-income families. For more than two decades I've been fortunate to do this in the private, nonprofit and public-sectors – both domestically and internationally – helping organizations achieve unprecedented levels of impact, community, sustainability, and brand awareness. Leading teams in ways that harness the power of collective intelligence – through full team collaboration and in the relentless pursuit of improving the lives of our customers – motivates me daily.I’m a servant leader adept at toggling between developing audacious, long-term strategy models, and overseeing the fine details of implementation. Addressing essential questions drives me: What creative, new strategies can we employ to inspire the people to whom we are in service? How can we work in ways that are more generative, helping to actualize the full humanity, and potential, of each of our team members? How do we bring clarity and direction to ambiguous and/or complex situations? How do we measure our impact – quantitatively and qualitatively – in ways that help us tell a more powerful story about our efforts and our impact? How do we partner across communities in ways that demonstrate our respect for others’ values and experiences, and lead to impacts that far exceed our individual efforts? How do we align our brand with fundamental human and earth-centered values? Ultimately, how do we achieve impact worthy of our efforts?I'm a life-long learner. As a part of my leadership practice, I think daily about how to support my team in ways that help them achieve their full potential as we drive, together, to meet our ambitious team goals. I consistently reflect on my leadership, inclusivity, biases, assumptions, strengths, and growth opportunities, weaving this into a broader reflection about about how my efforts, and our efforts as a team, are connected to the whole. On a more personal note, my wife and I live in Portland, OR with our school-age children. Together we enjoy hiking, biking, reading, cooking, playing sports and games, traveling, and connecting deeply with friends.
