Dr. Comisi practiced general dentistry and dental sleep medicine successfully in Ithaca, NY for 35 years before relocating to South Carolina in August 2017 to join the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences. He is the Course Director for the College's Operative Dentistry II (adhesive and esthetic dentistry) Course, Chair of the Department’s Dental Materials Committee, and a past Infection Control Officer for the College of Dental Medicine. In addition, he is the Course Director for the newly introduced course on Airway and Sleep Medicine for Dental and Medical Professionals, the first of its kind in US Dental Colleges. A graduate of Northwestern University Dental School, he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Fordham University and is a respected Key Opinion Leader, author, speaker, and consultant. He is a member of the Academy of Dental Materials, the American Academy of Cariology, the American Association for Oral Systemic Health, the International Association of Dental Research, the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research, the American Sleep and Breathing Academy, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Diseases, and the American Dental Education Association. He is a member of the Advisory Council for the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Diseases. Dr. Comisi is the President of the South Carolina Dental Association and an Editorial Board member of the European Dental Research and Biomaterials Journal, the Journal of Dentistry and Oral Science, and Decisions in Dentistry. Dr. Comisi is an Emeritus member and Master of the Academy of General Dentistry and holds Fellowships in the Academy of Dentistry International, the American College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International College of Dentists. He is Certified in Dental Sleep Medicine by the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Diseases and is a Diplomate of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy.
