I am a data scientist in the finance industry, using machine learning and statistical modeling to build data science based products. My background includes a PhD where I developed novel methods for time-series analysis to advance our understanding of wildfire and climate change, published 18 papers, taught graduate level courses in applied Bayesian statistics and data science, and co-authored an R package for Bayesian modeling of count data. Recently, my work revolves around Natural Language Processing using large language models and their embeddings to identify similar banking transaction descriptions across billions of transactions. I modify the embedding weights to minimize the distance among similar transactions and maximize the distance among dissimilar transactions, allowing me to build classifiers with few labeled training examples.
