About John Cameron

John is a humanitarian, philanthropist, social entrepreneur and computer programmer. He has experience in international development, human rights, and migration, and has worked with organisations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). With Talent Beyond Boundaries and Pathway Club he is working to change the way the world thinks about and responds to the global refugee crisis, and to create new opportunities for refugees to use their skills and build a better future for themselves and their families. He has served as a member of the Australian Settlement Services Advisory Council, advising the government on settlement issues for migrants, including refugees. He is also one of the pioneers of electronic trading. He was a key member of the team that first automated the trading floor of the Australian Securities Exchange, one of the first in the world. He has designed and developed information systems for major financial institutions in the United Kingdom, France, the United States and Australia. In 1997 he created what was to become the world’s leading FIX solution, CameronFIX. It was acquired by Orc Software in 2006 (now Broadridge - Itiviti) where John served as CTO until 2009. In 2007 he created Cameron Foundation. He was elected as Director of the international electronic trading industry body FIX Trading Community from 2010 to 2013. He served as Director of global financial tech company Iress from 2010 to 2022. John co-founded the global refugee initiative Talent Beyond Boundaries and has worked full time for them pro bono since the beginning. He is their CTO and serves as Vice Chair of its board. He also co founded Pathway Club which provides an innovative, refugee led, self sustaining financial solution supporting skilled refugees relocate to new lives.
