About John Carson

John is a Colorado State Senator and general counsel at Cherry Creek Mortgage, an independent mortgage lender. In his general counsel role he has focused on mortgage lending, legal contracts, regulatory compliance & human resources for the past 15 years. John was previously the Regional Director for the Rocky Mountain Region of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) where he oversaw operations in six states, managed 300 employees, and directed FHA single and muti-family housing, public housing, fair housing, community planning and development, and Native American programs. Earlier in his career John worked on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. where he served as legal counsel to several U.S. Senators and Congressmen (including 8 years as legal counsel to Colorado's U.S. Senator Wayne Allard) and as staff director of the Housing Subcommittee of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. John was elected to and served on the University of Colorado Board of Regents where he oversaw a $4 billion budget and four campus university from 2015-2021. In his role as State Senator John represents Colorado's Senate District 30 - Highlands Ranch, Roxborough, Sterling Ranch, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, and parts of Littleton & Parker.
