About John Cheek

Employed in the nuclear power industry for 37 years; 14 years on AGR new build and operations and 23 years in nuclear power plant decommissioning. During the first 14 years was responsible for all nuclear island plant outside of the reactor vessels during the build of Torness Power Station and was both the responsible design and project engineer for various nuclear power plant projects. I joined BNFL as part of an 8 man team that established the decommissioning arrangements at Hunterston ‘A’ Site and became responsible for all decommissioning activities on site including project management, project controls, design and site operations, and acted as Deputy Site Director. Instigated and managed the Magnox Replicable Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) decommissioning initiative. Took a post in Canada at the Bruce Power site engaged in reactor restart activities and then back in the UK as Project Director for the Magnox Reactor Sites Strategic Alliance providing operational support to the Magnox Stations. This was followed as Managing Director for MOTA Europe Ltd. a speciality reactor and extreme environment decommissioning company and then as MD of Siempelkamp Nuclear Technology UK providing a range of nuclear products. I was then invited by the Siempelkamp holding company to recover the distressed project of the deconstruction of the twin reactors and internals at Zion in the USA. Following that success, I joined the DavyMarkham Rescue and Turnaround Team as Nuclear & Defence Director. Introduced the Nuclear Container Product initiative with successes including the contract award for the manufacture of the Magnox 6m3 Robust Concrete Boxes with group company Amber Precast. I recently transferred to Amber Precast as a part time Non-Executive Director and Director of Special Projects to continue developing new concrete products for the nuclear industry. I also act in a Consultancy role to support other company strategic nuclear development.
