About John Chelliah

As a corporate and academic governance consultant, I am dedicated to supporting private higher education and vocational providers across Australia in achieving regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and sustainable growth. Leveraging practical experience from senior roles in academia and business, I help boards and executives implement streamlined governance frameworks that meet TEQSA and ASQA standards, enhance risk management, and foster continuous improvement. In recent projects, I enabled an independent provider to secure TEQSA reaccreditation by overhauling their academic board processes and aligning corporate governance structures, resulting in a significant reduction in compliance-related audit findings within one year. My support for several institutions has led to measurable enhancements in student retention, transparency of board decision-making, and successful navigation of regulatory reviews. Before consulting, I served as Director of HR and Professor in Management at Fiji National University (2016–2022), driving organisational change initiatives and delivering academic leadership programs. My earlier role as Senior Lecturer at University of Technology Sydney (2004–2016) focused on strategy, entrepreneurship, and HRM, influencing hundreds of graduates to excel in governance and institutional leadership. With a PhD from RMIT University, I draw on both academic rigour and hands-on management expertise. My work spans development of governance policies, accreditation project leadership, and advising on risk, quality assurance, and board evaluation for diverse providers. I regularly present at international conferences and lecture at renowned business schools in Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific, sharing actionable insights backed by research and real-world results.
