About John Clarke

In October 2019 I joined Fiscal Engineers in Nottingham to chair the Investment & Risk Committee and take responsibility for investment and economic communications with clients and professional connections. In the four and a half years from March 2015 I had been acting as a freelance economics consultant, providing advice on the global economy and financial markets to a range of private client portfolio management companies. Prior to that, for more than 10 years I was Chief Investment Officer at GHC Capital Markets, taking responsibility for GHC's in house macroeconomic research and asset allocation across the company’s range of diversified investment products. For the previous five years I ran another consultancy, John Clarke Economics Limited, which was subsequently acquired by GHC. Before that, between 1990 and I was Chief Economist at Norwich Union Investment Management, where I had responsibility for tactical asset allocation within the Group’s main with profits fund, then valued at some £21 billion. Prior to joining NU, I spent five years in the Government Economic Service, at H M Treasury and the Department of Employment, rising to the rank of Economic Adviser. I am a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and an authority on Quantitative Easing.
