About John Coroner

As one of three founding Executive Directors at Ethos, I play a key role in the direction and strategy of the company. I am proud of what we have achieved, and I am passionate about driving innovation and embracing new and improved ways of working on our projects, which deliver significant benefits for our clients. The growth of the company is founded on our passion to deliver the best solution in the optimal timeframe and to focus every resource to give our clients precisely what they need. We aspire to be the company in our sector that others look to emulate. This aspiration keeps me singularly focused on emerging trends and how we can best adapt as an organisation to meet them. In everything that we do, we want to be the company that works ‘smarter not harder’ and that people want to work both for and with. I play a leading role in bringing ‘left field thinking’ at the outset of key projects. This trait of treating each project as completely bespoke, with no pre-ordained solutions, brings significant value-add to both the process and the project outcomes. I love being involved beyond the mech and elec solutions with our clients, in early strategic thinking and programme design and improvement. In 2020 I completed an Honours Degree in Irish Law. The study of law coupled with my electrical engineering background complement each other and offer an ability to review complex issues and helps to achieve or understand solutions arrived at. I love the way engineering takes client parameters or small pieces of information and uses them to find innovative bespoke solutions. Without knowing it, engineers automatically couple their education with the application of the laws and regulations in their area and use these as the rules of engagement in reaching the final solutions. The understanding of the law helps me every day in how I work as an executive director, in driving project and business decisions. As a father spare time is rare, however when I do have some I like to jog. It allows me time to focus on the issues of the moment and issues can be solved on a 30-minute run that have been tying you up all day. I have taken part in numerous marathons in various countries, but still love the crowds and the energy of the Dublin City Marathon. Having helped with my children’s athletics training and with an adult fit4life group I became an Athletics Ireland coach. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than getting people off the couch and into their first 5k race and seeing them months and years later still out jogging.
