About John Coxhead

Dr John Coxhead is a classic 'pracademic'- someone who worked in applied professional practice and research in higher education at the same time; in John's case for over thirty five years! He joined Derbyshire Constabulary straight after graduating from Keele University and returned to Keele to complete a research masters in Criminology before undertaking a doctorate researching the link between policing learning and development and workplace performance. Later came post doctoral applied research with Lancaster University and the UK Serious Organised Crime Agency, on serious organised crime profiling. Then work on community cohesion with the Strategic Police Matters Unit (who have a Pan European remit and are based in Vienna as part of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe), rounded off his research training and brought publications. John is Professor at the international PIEL Centre at UEL, London; resident columnist for Police Professional, the UK's biggest selling policing publication, Visiting Professor at Loughborough University, as well as external examiner for postgraduate policing research at Manchester Metropolitan and the University of South Wales. Leisure wise, interests include the Japanese martial art of Aikido, and jazz guitar, as well as being kept busy by two lively daughters and a new grandson.
