About John Crawford

The throughline of my career has been in the use of large, complex, and/or long term data sets to try to understand variation. Through academic research, teaching, and as an analyst, I have developed a unique blend of data analysis and collaborative project management experience. I am skilled in analysis of complex datasets to identify patterns and counterintuitive trends, translating data into actionable results, and clearly communicating with diverse audiences. My goal is to apply this analytical insight and evidence-based reasoning to forecast or explain relationships and derive strategy. My Ph.D. is in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Illinois where I explored the existence, extent, and consequences of individual differences in non-mixing populations. We discovered substantial variation that could influence spatial (across different neighboring lakes) and temporal (across seasons and years) dynamics of a keystone freshwater species. My research spanned extensive field collection, laboratory experimental design and execution, molecular genotyping, and statistical analysis.
