Background

About John Curtsinger

Industrious from a young age, my first job in high school was working at a local bowling alley as the floor boy. I set up for league play and cleaned up after everyone. After high school I worked for a pool company, cleaning and maintaining residential pools. I was also employed at a supermarket and a construction company, where I was promoted from concrete crew to estimator in no time. I was nothing if not industrious. When I left construction, I officially began my career in banking at 25. I was hired as a P/T teller for Charter Oak Federal Savings Bank, and when it was acquired by Huntington Bank, I was instantly promoted to a Personal Banker. Later, I worked at WFS Financial as a Business Development Rep, serving auto dealerships. In less than one year, I increased $800K in monthly revenue to more than $2.5M per month. Next, I went to Provident Bank as a Commercial Portfolio Manager, Key Bank as a Business Banker, and Liberty Bank for 5 years, until the banking crisis in 2008 when I moved from lending to external auditing. At Fifth Third Bank I was hired as a Field Exam Manager and stayed there for 3 years. To date, I have been with Best Buy for over 12 years in its largest computer repair facility, Geek Squad City. I was promoted 7 years ago to General Manager in charge of finance and operations, where I manage a team of 180 members. Some deliverables that I’m proud of which I’ve generated in my tenure as Senior Manager, Finance & Operations at Best Buy include: 1. Lowered headcount 19%, which resulted in decreased overhead costs. Reduced operational costs 44% through cost-saving initiatives and performance monitoring. Boosted employee morale, increased job satisfaction, and reduced attrition to 2%, with an average employment rate of 9 years. I see things that others do not. I am forward thinking and dig into issues to find the root cause, then focus on an actionable resolution and execution. I am self-assured; I know what I do and don’t know. A mentor once gave me brilliant advice: “Jump off a cliff and learn to fly on the way down,” which has always been how I approach risk; I dive head-on into new opportunities. I believe in myself and in my ability to communicate through my words, actions, and follow-through. I look forward to applying my passion, dedication, and business acumen to my next professional endeavor.
