John began his career in 1976 at BELL Laboratories developing software for the first electronic telephone switching systems which ran AT & T’s network. His career then included being a leader for the Scientific and Engineering organization of a major power utility as a senior technology consulting for several financial services firms. He joined Citigroup in 1985 and went on to lead the development of numerous global digital product platforms including Citidirect, the industries first internet based, multi-product, cross border transaction and information platform. He holds two patents for his designs. In John was asked to implement an Application Architecture and Development Engineering function for the combined Solomon, Smith Barney and Citigroup Capital Markets Software development Unit. In 2006, John was named Citigroup’s Chief Technology Officer, and became responsible for all infrastructure engineering. His efforts led to a 2/3 reduction in applications supporting Citi globally. In 2009 John was asked to lead the complete redesign of the bank's core management, finance, risk, HR, and compliance platforms, replacing hundreds of legacy platforms. In the process of doing so, his teams created the platforms supporting Basel Capital standards, Global Liquidity Reporting, CCAR Stress Testing, and Resolution Planning. His team also created and rolled out Citi's global KYC and Sanction screening platforms. In 2015, John led the definition of Citi’s IT strategy now on target to deliver in excess of $1Bn in benefits. In 2017, he led the definition of Citi’s Enterprise Analytics Data strategy. His team then built and rolled out the global Enterprise Analytics Platform to support the new demands of Citi's complex, data driven businesses.
